The traditional final event of the belgian rally championship is always the season highlight. Attracting an international audience the belgian elite battles international superstars on legendary roads that are as challenging as they are infamous. For the 43rd edition of the Condroz the entry list features a whopping 143 competitors. Like every year Citroen is a very prominent guest. With two DS3 R5s piloted by WRC works drivers Stéphane Lefebvre & Craig Breen, three C4 WRC with Citroen Racing Team principal Yves Matton, David Bonjean, and Bertrand Grooten it’s a force to be reckoned with. The biggest surprise certainly is the appearance of Francois Duval in Hyundai Motorsport’s newest brainchild i20 R5, the very first customer-sports car of the Korean car manufacturer. The belgian Elite will further be represented by champion Freddy Loix, Cedric Cherain, Vincent Verschueren and Ghsilain de Mevius all behind the wheel of the extremely strong Skoda Fabia R5. Completing an extremely competitive field will be Xavier Bouche (Ford Focus WRC), Benoit „FastBen“ Allart & Manuel Canal-Robles (Skoda Fabia WRC), Chris Van Woensel (Mitsubishi Lancer WRC), Guino Kenis (Mini Cooper Works WRC), last year’s runner up Kris Princen and Cédric de Cecco (Peugeot 208 R5) will all tackle the legendary stages around the rallye’s hometown of Huy.
Following the spectacle the organisers expect around 60.000 spectactors from all over the world. Therefore safety is once again a big concern. Organisers have already announced the cancellation of certain special-stages is imminent in case of people behaving unresponsably. Therefore if you want to enjoy one of Europe’s biggest and most spectacular events, do so – but remember to stay safe. More info can be found here.
